    API Changes in Windows Vista

As you can imagine there are a lot of new APIs in Vista and there are even some changes. To be precise there are 6891 new APIs and 231 APIs that have changed.

the complete list is posted here http://devreadiness.org/files/5/white_papers/entry137.aspx under the article : Complete list of Windows Vista API changes.

This is a great tool to help you assess if your app will work under Vista in the same way it did under XP.

Vista support for the Creative WebCam Live! Motion

There is no Vista driver for this webcam and the creative website lists that they will have a driver in Q4 of 2007. Yes you read that correctly. that is a long wait to use my camera that I bought only a few months ago.

if you have the same problem send an email to creative using this link: http://us.creative.com/support/contact/emailform.asp?WT.si_n=ww_kb&WT.si_x=2&WT.cg_n=Support

    Adobe recognizes Windows Vista RC1

I had to view a PDF (wouldn't you think that all docs would be XPS by now :-) and thus had to re-install Acrobat on my freshly rebuild machine with Vista RC 1 and Office 2007 Beta2 TR.

I was happily surprised by adobe that on their website they automatically recognized that I had Vista as my OS and offered the appropriate version of Acrobat for installation.

I hope all ISVs are so pro-active.

Jim Allchin: Windows Vista RC1 is done

we just got note that Vista RC1 is done. It is per direct available to TechBeta and TAP  participants. The rest of the world will need to wait a few more days.

    The build number is 5600.

This feels good as we have hit the date as predicted. Now I am just holding tight till the Office boys and girls have their part of the puzzle ready (b2TR) and I can start my upgrade

Vista RC1, Office 2007 Beta2 TR: I can hardly wait any longer...

I have been running Vista and Office 2007 Beta since May this year. I really liked but but I start to hate it now.

Don't get me wrong; this is not because they are bad it is a combination of the following two items:

    1. I have installed lots of other beta/alpha software on top of it and it starts to take its toll
    2. lots of people are running recent builds of RC1 or B2TR and say how much nicer, faster and more stable it is.

The reason I wait for the official release (still a week or so before it hits the web I guess) is that it takes me a day to rebuild my machine with all the software I need to install. I want to do a clean install and not an upgrade of a today's builds to the real RC1/B2TR bits.

time goes slow if you have to wait but hopefully less than 2 weeks..... and it will be party time.
