do you want to licence the new Office 2007 UI for your application?

and be able to resell the appliation commercially and legally?

that is now possible with the new licensing that is announced my Microsoft. And even cooler it is FREE.

the only caveat is that you cant compete a with the office applications

go read all about it here

Reading Office 2007 files in Office 2003

As you can imagine all the files that I am producing now are in the office 2007 format. This means that if you don't have office 2007 yet (99.9999% of the world) you will need to install the converter kit

You can find the converter kit that you need to do that here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=941B3470-3AE9-4AEE-8F43-C6BB74CD1466&displaylang=en

Office 2007 Beta2 Technical Refresh is ready to roll

As you might have read in my earlier posts I have been monitoring both the Vista RC1 and the Office 2007 B2TR releases as I wanted to rebuild my M4 tablet. I already posted that Vista RC1 was ready but a few hours later I also saw an email that B2TR was ready for internal consumption.

so I downloaded all of it over my Comcast cable modem and rebuild my M4. All went quite well except the Office install seems to take forever. In fact I killed it twice because I thought it was stuck. I ended up restarting it before I went to sleep last night and luckily when I woke up this morning it had finished.

I then installed Visio, Groove, OneNote and Project and am up and running. You wonder why then can't make an ultimate version of office that has all these things so I don't need to keep clicking setup all the time (similar to how Vista controls your features through your licence/PID)

The only disappointment I had is that outlook couldn't find my exchange server automatically. I tried it from the internet and VPN-d in to the corporate network but it didn't find it. I actually had to tell it the name of the server but then it connected and started downloading my mailbox.

The system seems to work quite nice and even has the earo/glass look.

I will post more later in the week on how things are working out.
