February 04 5 things you don't know about me..I got tagged by foxy Bob. My friends don't read my blog so this should be easy.....
Tagging 5 new people to keep this viral thing going (or is it getting too old already): DataDude, Lauren by Design, Simon, Brian, Coach Matt (will he ever write something?)
October 29 Which flatscreen HDTV should I get?I am looking for what flatscreen HDTV to buy. It will be used in the living room and mostly be used for TV to watch sports and movies.. Here is a list of features that I think are important:
What features am I missing? do I need a HDTV or SDV tuner? Should I get cable card? what other connectors are important? How do you like ambilight? I hope to get such a TV for approx 5k but I saw Sony is about to release a very nice one that costs $6700 December will be high-tech month in my houseI have been holding off a lot of high tech purchases in the house to either wait for the right version to be released or for prices to become reasonable. Here is my planned list for December:
I guess I will make some of these presents for my household member to "camouflage" the spending spree. I figure I have held back long enough so I don't feel too bad about going at it all in one go. July 07 Winning the lotteryyeah dream on.....
so what would I do if I won the lottery:
(and I dont mean a small one; nope I am shooting for a $300M biggie)
so there is no charity in the list.... I guess this is because I pay so much tax that I feel it is not my responsibility (although I have recently given to charity; totally out of character....) however if I would have money I would reconsider that but not give randomly; I would review what my goals would be and base my giving on that; until then no charity in my list. January 03 I won my first poker tournamenta bit of background first:
about 8-9 years ago I played a bit of poker back in the Netherlands in the snooker club which I used to frequent (De Snookerij in Leiden). this was before Poker got popular and they were just cash games. You could bet for as much money you had in your pocket. I wasnt bad it but not good either
Two years ago I started to play poker online at PokerRoom.com. I only play "play-money" games as it is to much hassle for me to get involved with real money games (US credit card companies decline to deal with online gaming companies). I often win but as it is play money i start of with my 1000 credits and play them up to a few thousand (my record is 200k in a session) but then I lose interrest and usually decide to make a million or go broke and of course that means going broke ;-)
a few months ago I found out that a collegue of mine, Sean Vandemark, was into poker aswell and I dropped him an email that I would be interrested in a game. He said that he would notify me if there was a game and a few weeks ago I got an invite for a Fiesta Bowl poker party.
Although ND got beat the night turned out to be great fun.
There were 3 tables and the outlay was $30. I managed to do nothing stupid and lived of a full house that earned me some money in my second hand.
In the beginning I was quiet nervous, not so much because I was afraid to lose my outlay but more that I didnt want to sit around for a long time and wait for a new game to start. Blinds were going up on the clock (did i mention that this was very well organized by "Mike the floormanager" and Sean). After I was down to the last table the nerves where gone and I was quite comfortable.
At the last table I managed to take a lot of money of the chipleader with a few nice hands and was probably in the chiplead when we were down to 3-4 people. Then as we were down to the last two I got taken for almost all my money and was down to a few thousand (I only had a single 500 chip and a whole bunch of 100s and 50s so the other guy must have had them all plus the 1k chips and his share of 100/50s)
As we were now head to head I started playing quiet aggressively and slowly made up ground and even claimed the lead back. Then althought it wasn't the last hand of the evening I managed to lay down a king-low hand against what turned out to be a pair of pocket jacks. After that a few more hands where played but a combination of aggresiveness and decent cards brought me the victory.
That fellt pretty cool! I had won the first poker tournament I ever played in. My record is now 1-0
After a while a second tournament started. There were some new people at the table I played at (I kept my lucky chair ;-) and some played (seemingly) quiet loose. This threw me off in one particular hand where I was bluffing my way into a street (with backup pair of 10s) At the flop the loose player got called at an all-in by the guy in front of me and in a lapse of judgment I called as well (as did the guy behind me). it turned out that the guy behind me already had a street on the flop and it was good enough for him so he killed 3 birds with one stone.
I guess that was a good learning experience: always keep thinking and don't let lose players adjust your style....
October 31 In the Netherlands Witches get a taxbreakAnother amazing feat:
Witchcraft tax-break is no hocus pocus
Under Dutch court’s spell witches can write off schooling costs This is quite amazing; you can go "party" 13 weekends a year and write it of as a tax break for schooling costs July 12 biUbewe're getting a biUbe fish tank for my son's 5th birthday.
They are really cool looking. I noticed them last week in the NYT and contacted the manufacturer (Reef One) as I couldn't find them yet in the USA. They pointed me to CASCO-Group who are the distributors in the USA.Bruce from Casco-group was kind enough to tell me which stores would be stocking the biUbe. Hopefully it will be here in time for the weekend so I can set it up secretly and let the water in it rest;
Then of to buy fish on Sunday so when JP wakes up on Monday he will have some fish to take care of |
